This song was conceived after my brother Ted died of aids in 1994. It's a fictional phone call to the parents of someone diagnosed with aids.
lyrics
In my quiet lonely room, I sit staring at the phone
wondering what I'm gonna say, now the winds of change have blown
Cause I just got the news today, words I didn't want to hear
repeating echoes in my head and preying on my fears
So I make the call, but I can't hold back the tears
Hello dad it's me, no I'm feeling kinda low
I need to talk to you and mom, there's some things you need to know
I need you to listen, for there's no easy way
to tell you how my life has changed, It's so hard for me to say
Please promise you'll be strong, it has to be alright with you
I need to feel like I belong, I've had my share of solitude
I don't want your sympathy, no you need not be afraid
I Still have my life to live, I don't need to feel betrayed
Has the sky just fallen down, it's all there before me now
Hello dad it's me, no I'm feeling kinda low
I need to talk to you and mom, there's some things you need to know
I need you to listen for there's no easy way
to tell you how my life has changed, it'so hard for me to say
No mom they haven't found a cure, wish I could cure your broken heart
there's people working night and day, breaking ground and that's a start
Could this be a new beginning, Momma this is not the end
I know that I've done nothing wrong, right now I need a friend
God didn't will this, he's been with me all along
Hello mom it's me, no I'm feeling kinda low
I need to talk to you and dad, there's some things you need to know
I need you to listen, for there's no easy way,
to tell you how my life has changed, it's so hard for me to say
hello mom it's me, hello dad it's me, hello God it's me
